Farmers' trusted source for conservation expertise for more than 75 years

The Office of Resource Conservation helps fund and staff Maryland’s 23 soil conservation districts, promoting local programs that keep farms productive while protecting the Chesapeake Bay.

District engineering technicians and field specialists help farmers design and implement best management practices to protect natural resources and meet environmental regulations. Staff also develop Soil Conservation and Water Quality Plans required by many federal and state conservation programs. Districts work with the Maryland Departments of Agriculture and Environment to address cases of water pollution caused by agriculture.

Soil conservation districts are members of Maryland's Conservation Partnership, a coalition of federal, state, and local agriculture agencies dedicated to conserving natural resources and promoting Maryland agriculture.

Are you a Maryland landowner, farmer, or horse owner? Contact your local soil conservation district for free assistance to design and install best management practices on your land to optimize farm productivity and lower operating costs while protecting soil health, water quality, and the Chesapeake Bay Watershed.
