Practical Experiences in Nutrient Management

  • Overview: This workshop is offered by the University of Maryland Extension Agricultural Nutrient Management Program. It provides participants with hands-on farming and nutrient management related activities including: 
    • Yield and moisture estimates of grain crops
    • Harvest machinery overview and demonstration
    • Compost and cover crop application to fields. 
    • Nutrient management consultants and certified farm operators who attend for the entire day will receive 5.5 continuing education credits.
  • Who should attend: Farmers and consultants seeking  continuing education credits.
  • Cost: $15 (includes lunch)  payable through the registration link

Farmer Training & Certification to Write Nutrient Management Plans for Nurseries, Greenhouses, & Controlled Environments

    • Training: Wye Research and Education Center, 124 Wye Narrows Drive, Queenstown, MD 21658
    • Exam/Signoff: TBA
  • Overview: Learn the nutrient management planning process, develop a plan for your operation, and complete the certification exam and plan review process. Certified operators may submit their own nutrient management plans and annual implementation reports to the Maryland Department of Agriculture. This program includes a training day, independent plan development, and a later exam/signoff day. Nutrient management consultants may also attend to earn 6 continuing education credits.​  ​
  • Who should attend: Nursery, greenhouse, and controlled-environment growers seeking Farmer Training Certification (FTC) to write their own nutrient management plans.
  • Cost: $40 for certification candidates (includes lunch and MDA exam fee); $20 for consultants not taking the exam
