Maryland Nutrient Management Certification Exam

  • Date: Aug. 7, 2026
  • Location: Annapolis, Keedysville, and Easton (see registration link for more details)
  • Overview: The Maryland Nutrient Management Certification Examination is for farmers and consultants who want to write nutrient management plans for others. The test consists of 100 multiple choice questions selected from twelve knowledge areas.
  • Who should attend: Farmers and consultants who want to write nutrient management plans for others.
  • Cost: $50 non-refundable certification fee. Government personnel are exempt with a Government Sales and Use Tax Exempt certificate.
  • Registration deadline: July 31, 2026

Farmer Training & Certification to Write Nutrient Management Plans for Nurseries, Greenhouses, & Controlled Environments

    • Training: Wye Research and Education Center, 124 Wye Narrows Drive, Queenstown, MD 21658

  • Overview: Learn the nutrient management planning process, develop a plan for your operation, and complete the certification exam and plan review process. Certified operators may submit their own nutrient management plans and annual implementation reports to the Maryland Department of Agriculture. This program includes a training day, independent plan development, and a later exam/signoff day. Nutrient management consultants may also attend to earn 6 continuing education credits.​  ​
  • Who should attend: Nursery, greenhouse, and controlled-environment growers seeking Farmer Training Certification (FTC) to write their own nutrient management plans.
  • Cost: $40 for certification candidates (includes lunch and MDA exam fee); $20 for consultants not taking the exam
